Medical University of South Carolina
In February 2011, health science students throughout
the Charleston area participated in VSI Project. Surgeons at the Medical
University of South Carolina, Dr. Charles Bratton and Dr. Ken Chavin,
teamed to preform a live donor kidney surgery and interacted with students
as part of this unique experience. The event was streamed live to participating
schools and allowed them to chat directly with the surgical team. Teacher
lesson plans were also made available in advance of the live show to prepare
students not only about the surgery but also the importance of being an
organ donor.
